Although Outlook is a great choice for emails, you may encounter issues with it every once in a while. Issues can be of different types like sluggish behavior, PST corruption, difficulty sending emails, Outlook freezing\/hanging etc.<\/p>\n

\u2018Outlook hanging when sending emails\u2019 is one such common issue and will be covered in this article. What are the reasons for this error and how can it be resolved? All of these details will be covered.<\/p>\n

Normally, this error occurs when the delivery folder is corrupt, when the cached mode is not enabled or when you\u2019re Outlook has a huge nickname cache. In order to resolve this issue, let us look at some solutions in this article.<\/p>\n

Solution 1: Set a delivery location<\/strong><\/p>\n

This applies if you are using a POP3 email account and the delivery location is corrupt. In this case, the issue can be resolved by setting the location right.<\/p>\n

  1. Click on the File<\/strong> menu in Outlook and select Info<\/strong><\/li>\n
  2. Select Account Settings<\/strong> > Account Settings<\/strong><\/li>\n
  3. Select the POP account<\/strong> and click Change folder<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. Select a folder to deliver emails from the list of folders provided<\/li>\n
  5. Now go back to Outlook and check if you are able to send emails<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Solution 2: Configure Outlook in Cached Mode<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Open Outlook and in the File <\/strong>menu, select Info<\/strong><\/li>\n
    2. Select Account Settings<\/strong> > Account Settings<\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. Choose your Exchange Account <\/strong>and click Change<\/strong><\/li>\n
    4. Enable the Use Cached Exchange Mode<\/strong> option<\/li>\n
    5. Choose an appropriate setting for Mail to keep offline<\/strong><\/li>\n
    6. Click Ok<\/strong> on the prompt that appears and finally click Finish<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Solution 3: Clear the nickname cache<\/strong><\/p>\n

      You may not be able to send or receive emails in Outlook if the nickname cache is full. To help resolve this error, these steps show you how to clear the nickname cache in Outlook.<\/p>\n

      1. Open Outlook and select File > Options<\/strong><\/li>\n
      2. Select the Mail tab<\/strong><\/li>\n
      3. In the Send messages<\/strong> section, click Empty AutoComplete list<\/strong><\/li>\n
      4. Click Yes <\/strong>to confirm<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        If none of these methods work, there is a possibility that your PST file is corrupt and needs to be repaired. In order to achieve this, you can use a tool called Remo Repair PST. This software repairs corruption in PST files and creates a new file for use with Outlook. By using the newly prepared PST file with your Outlook, your issue will be resolved and you should be able to send and emails.<\/p>\n
