You just upgraded from Outlook 2007 to Outlook 2010 on your IMAP account. Unfortunately, there is no deleted items folder after the upgrade. You are greeted with the error “The Deleted Items folder is unavailable” once you delete an email on your Outlook. This problem does not disappear even after you close and restart Outlook.

- Subscribe the Deleted Items Folder

- Click Inbox folder on your IMAP account.
- Now click on Folders -> IMAP Folders.
- A popup window appears. Press Query
- From the list of folders, select Deleted Items folder and click Subscribe.
- Create Deleted Items folder manually
- On your IMAP account, click on File. Now select Account Settings.
- In your Account Settings dialog box, double-click on IMAP account.
- In Change Account dialog box, click on More Settings.
- Now click on Deleted Items
- Now select New Folder
- In Create Folder window, enter the name of the folder as Deleted Items and click OK.
- Now select Move Deleted Items to the following folder on the server
- Select Deleted Items folder and click OK.
- Assign the right Deleted Items folder
Once you have created the Deleted Items folder manually, it is time to assign it.
- Click on File -> Account Settings.
- In Account Settings window, double-click on your IMAP account under Email tab.
- A Change Account window opens up. Click More Settings.
- Under Internet E-mail Settings dialog box, click Deleted Items
- Now, select Deleted Items folder to store all your deleted items.
- Click on OK.
