Suppose you are in an (Unread Mail) Search folder, then switch back to the Inbox folder and check if the emails are present. If you are already in the Inbox folder, then see to it that the view is not set as Unread Messages in This Folder, or you have a filter applied to your view.

Emails automatically moving can also be caused by any add-ins which you might have installed. Depending on the way they are been used, emails might appear in the Inbox and then be directly removed from it. The add-ins usually responsible for this issue are anti-spam filters and virus scanners which integrate with Outlook.
If you have such add-ins installed, then check their settings to see how they affect emails. For instance, are they moving emails to another folder, deleting it directly, or moving it to some other storage location on their own?
