Fix ‘Windows Movie Maker no Sound’ Issue

Windows Movie Maker is a great tool to create and edit videos easily. You can also use it to upload videos to Facebook, YouTube, and OneDrive etc. Although it is extensively used by many users, it is not without its share of problems. Users complain frequently about ‘no audio’ and ‘audio video out of sync’ issues.

In this article, we’ll cover the main reasons for the error and potential solutions to resolve the same.

Solution 1: Restart your system

As simple as it may seem, this method resolves some of the most common issues in Windows. Simply ‘restart’ your system and check if the video can be played normally.

Solution 2: Restart ‘Windows Audio service’

  1. Click on the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘Services’ in the Search box
  2. Select ‘Windows Audio’ from the list of the services menu
  3. Right click on the service and click on ‘Stop
  4. Again right click on the service and select ‘Start

Restarting Windows Audio service this way helps resolve the ‘no audio’ issue in some cases. If this doesn’t seem to help, you can proceed to the next troubleshooting step.

Solution 3: Turn OFF ‘DTS sound’

  1. Open the ‘Start’ menu and type ‘DTS Sound’ in the search bar
  2. Click on ‘DTS sound’ and in the window that opens, turn it ‘OFF’ using the power button on the left
  3. Close the DTS Sound window

Now try playing the video file in Movie Maker; if the video plays without any issues, you’re done here. If not, try running the program in compatibility mode as explained in the next step.

Solution4: Run Windows Movie Maker in ‘Compatibility Mode’

You can try the compatibility mode if none of the above methods work. Compatibility mode is designed for programs to be compatible with the computer’s new OS. It does so by limiting the program to only a few basic features. To run Windows Movie Maker in compatibility mode, follow the steps below.

  1. Go to ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Live\Photo Gallery’. Here you will find a ‘MovieMaker.exe’ file
  2. Right click on the file and select ‘Properties
  3. Click on ‘Compatibility’ tab and under ‘Compatibility Mode’, check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’.
  4. Select the ‘OS’ you are currently using on your computer
  5. Click on ‘Apply’

Now restart Windows Movie Maker and you should be able to play the video file with sound. If this method doesn’t fix the problem, you can verify if the codecs used in the video file are supported by the player. You can also try converting the video file to ‘WMV’ format. Most users claim that ‘WMV’ format can be played without any issues on Windows Movie Maker.

If none of these methods work, there is a possibility that your file is corrupted and needs repair. Remo Repair MOV is a great tool to repair corrupted movie maker file easily in only a few minutes. The advantage is that you are offered a free trial version to evaluate the repaired file before purchasing the software.

How to Handle Stretched Videos and Remove Black Bars from Videos

Black bars while playing videos is a common issue. They appear on the left and right sides or on the top and bottom of the video. It can be quite distracting and annoying to watch videos with these black lines.

The black lines mainly appear due to the difference in aspect ratios. The most common aspect ratios are 4:3, standard for TV’s and 16:9, for high-definition videos. When you try to play a 4:3 movie on a 16:9 player or vice-versa, there may be differences and lead to black bars.

Other common reasons are third-party plugins. These plugins automatically resize the video and thus changes the aspect ratio, creating issues.

In this article, we explain how to resolve this problem. But first, it is a good idea to check if the black bars are a part of the video or they are only an empty section on the screen. You can do this by opening the video using VLC player.

  1. Go to Preferences in the VLC player and select Video
  2. On the right, look for Video Cropping and enter either ‘16:10’, ‘4:3’ or 16:9’. This depends on the aspect ratio of your screen.
  3. To save the changes, press Save at the bottom.

Now restart VLC player and check if the black lines are visible. If it’s not, they were only an empty section of the video and are gone now. However, if they are still present, they are a part of the video and to fix this, you will have to manually adjust the aspect ratio.

In the top menu bar, select Video and click on Aspect ratio. This will list down all the aspect ratios present. You have various options such as Default, 16:9, 4:3, 1:1, 16:10, 21:1, 35:1, 39:1, 5:4. You can play around with these options to see which one removes the black bars. Ideally one of them should help fix black lines for you.

However, if none of these options solve the problem, you can set a customized aspect ratio. To do so,

  1. In the menu bar, go to Tools > Preferences
  2. Under Preferences, select Video
  3. In the field ‘Force Aspect Ratio’, enter a value
  4. To save the changes, click Save and restart the VLC player.

Now VLC player uses the new aspect ratio to play videos. This will solve your problem of black lines in the videos.

Now that we have seen how to remove black bars, let us discuss some other problems with video files. The files may be blurry or pixelated. In some cases, the audio-video is out of sync or only the audio plays or only the video plays. These are indicative of corruption. In such cases, you will have to repair the file for it to play normally.

Remo Repair MOV is a great tool to repair corruption issues with MP4 and MOV files. You can repair all kinds of corruption issues from simple header issues to virus infected files. Refer how to fix corrupted video files MP4 for more details on the steps involved.

How to Fix Stretched Video in VLC by Changing Aspect Ratio

Sometimes when you’re watching a video, you may come across situations when the dimensions are off. The height or width may feel elongated or stretched. These issues are common and can often be fixed easily by changing the aspect ratio. In this article, we will explain how to change the aspect ratio in VLC player.

Steps to change the aspect ratio

In the menu bar, select Video > Aspect ratio. This will list all the aspect ratios present. The most commonly used aspect ratio for movies is 21:9 or 16.9 (widescreen). For TV shows (full screen), 4:3 aspect ratio is used. This way you can choose from the list of aspect ratios available or use the safe default setting.

However, if you are not satisfied with the available options and you wish to experiment with the settings further, you can do so by creating a customized aspect ratio.

  1. In the menu bar, click on Tools
  2. Select Preferences > Video
  3. In the field Force aspect ratio, enter a required value
  4. Finally, click on Save to save the changes. This will force the aspect ratio to be set according to your choice.

Now, re-open VLC player for the player to use the new value. But the customized aspect ratio may not work for all videos. So, in such cases, it may be a good idea to go back to the default option. Change the aspect ratio permanently

However, if you’re sure that you want to use the new aspect ratio permanently, you can also permanently change the settings.

  1. In the menu, click on Media > Convert/Save
  2. Click on Add and select the current video you wish to play
  3. Click Convert/Save
  4. Then choose a destination file.
  5. Under the Profile section, the default setting should be good. Once all the required options are chosen, click Start to begin the process.

Now the video should play using the new aspect ratio. And the changes made will be permanent this time.

Aspect ratio issues are common, they do occur at times. So a minor tweak to the ratios can do wonders and solve the issues. But many a time, users do encounter corruption issues with video files such as MP4 and MOV. The videos may be blurry or audio-video may be out of sync. In these situations, you can repair them using Remo Repair MOV. Refer video audio sync fixer for more details and the steps involved in the process.

Why Apple QuickTime is Needed by Sony Vegas Movie Studio & Vegas Pro

Sony’s Vegas Movie Studio and Vegas Pro are wonderful video editing applications. They support a variety of video formats such as AVI, MPG, WMV etc. natively.

However, a common complaint among Sony Vegas users is audio synchronization issues with Quick Time Format (MOV). Some users report that the audio goes out of sync when playing the video. In this article, we provide some ideas on troubleshooting the problem in a few easy ways.

It is important to understand MOV is a container which can contain different codecs. So, if your MOV file uses a codec that doesn’t support Sony Vegas Pro or the Movie Studio, you may have trouble playing/editing these files.

Solution 1: Install QuickTime player

It is a requirement that QuickTimisbe installed on the same computer where you have Sony Vegas. This will help the software provide support for Quick Time files. This is applicable for Vegas Pro 13 and older, Movie Studio 13 and older.

So, if you don’t already have Quick Time installed, go ahead and install it on your computer and check if you are able to open MOV files normally.

If it works, then great! If it does not work, try converting the file into a Sony Vegas supported format such as MP4. The process is explained in detail in the next step.

Solution 2: Convert your MOV file to MP4

VLC player, being the most compatible player that it is, is capable of supporting a myriad of codecs and formats. Using this player, you can easily convert your MOV file to MP4 for use with Sony applications.

  1. To get started, download VLC player on your system if you don’t have it already.
  2. Click on Media in the menu and then choose Convert/Save
  3. Click on Add button to choose your Mov file to convert to MP4
  4. Click Convert/Save to proceed
  5. From the drop down menu, select MP4 and choose a location to save the file by clicking on Browse.
  6. Click Start to begin the conversion process

Once you have successfully converted your file, you should be able to use them in Sony Vegas or Sony Movie Studio for editing purposes.

Note: If you already have QuickTime installed and you are still facing issues with QuickTime files, try installing an older version of QuickTime. This should help fix compatibility issues.
